18 Jun Rainbow Riots at World Pride in Washington DC
Our founder, Swedish artist and activist Petter Wallenberg was a keynote speaker at World Pride in Washington DC and a host of a fabulous event for the Swedish Embassy.
He talked about his experience of working a decade in Uganda where being LGBTQ+ is illegal, which led to the horrific police raid on Pride Uganda in 2016. Amongst the people held hostage was Wallenberg and his Ugandan team, and he explained how that moment inspired him to found Rainbow Riots, to keep fighting for marginalized LGBT+ communities.
To top it all off, he was joined on stage by New York drag legend Lady Bunny for the world premiere of our new song, ”My Love (Is the Way It’s Supposed to Be)” which also features queer voices from Uganda!
As Wallenberg explained: ”They can criminalise our existence but they can’t stop us from singing.”
Huge thank you to World Pride and the Swedish Embassy for making this possible.
